Every pipe material fails in its own way, and each one is a candidate for lining under the right conditions. Here is how we approach the pipes we find under Triangle commercial buildings.
Cast iron
The standard in commercial buildings for most of the twentieth century. Cast iron corrodes from the inside, builds up scale that narrows the bore, and eventually cracks or channels along the bottom. It is an excellent lining candidate: after descaling with chain cutters and high-pressure jetting, a liner restores a smooth, full-flow pipe and stops the corrosion where it stands.
Vitrified clay
Clay sewer pipe lasts a very long time but its short sections and many joints invite root intrusion and let sections shift. Lining bridges every joint with one continuous pipe, ending root problems for good. Badly offset sections are spot-repaired first, then lined through.
Orangeburg
A tar-impregnated fibre pipe used from the 1940s into the 1970s. Orangeburg softens, deforms and blisters with age. If the pipe still holds its shape it can be lined; if it has collapsed, a section is replaced and the rest lined. A camera inspection settles which.
Concrete
Larger storm and sanitary lines on commercial and institutional sites are often concrete, which deteriorates from hydrogen sulphide attack and joint failure. Progressive cleans and lines concrete pipe up to large diameters, including storm drains and site sewers.
PVC
PVC rarely corrodes but it can be crushed, separated at joints, or damaged by construction and settlement. Lining repairs those defects without digging up a line that is otherwise sound.

A camera inspection identifies the material, the condition and the fix. Most lining projects across all of these materials use CIPP or UV-cured liners installed through existing access.
Frequently asked questions
Can cast iron with heavy scale be lined?
Yes, after mechanical descaling. Cleaning to sound pipe is the most important step of a cast iron lining job, and it is where our jetting and cutter equipment earns its keep.
Is Orangeburg always replaceable rather than lineable?
Not always. If the pipe still holds its shape a liner can be installed; collapsed sections are replaced and the rest lined.
Do you line large-diameter concrete pipe?
Yes. Our pipeline cleaning equipment and lining systems cover sizes from small building drains to large site sewers and storm drains.
