What a Toyota & Lexus owner needs from a home charging installation: the right connector, the right circuit size, and an electrician who has wired it before.
Charging port and connector
The bZ, RZ and Toyota's newer EVs use NACS; earlier bZ4X and RZ models use J1772, and adapters are available. Toyota and Lexus plug-in hybrids (RAV4 Plug-in, Prius Plug-in, NX and RX plug-ins) use J1772.
How fast it charges at home
Toyota and Lexus EVs charge at up to about 11 kW on Level 2; earlier trims are closer to 7 kW. Plug-in hybrids charge at 3 to 7 kW, so a 20- or 30-amp circuit is often enough.
Manufacturer and universal chargers
Toyota does not require a branded charger; any hardwired or plug-in Level 2 unit works.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the Toyota & Lexus-branded charger?
No. The manufacturer unit works well and is a good choice if you already have it; a universal hardwired charger performs the same and often costs less.
Will my panel handle it?
Usually a 200-amp panel will; many 100-amp panels will not without load management or an upgrade. The load calculation in our assessment answers it, and we quote both options.
