What a BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche & Volvo owner needs from a home charging installation: the right connector, the right circuit size, and an electrician who has wired it before.
BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche & Volvo EV Charger Installation
Charging port and connector
European EVs (BMW i4, iX and i5; Mercedes EQ models; Audi e-tron and Q4/Q6; Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.Buzz; Porsche Taycan and Macan Electric; Volvo EX and XC Recharge) use J1772 on earlier model years and NACS on newer ones, with manufacturer adapters.
How fast it charges at home
Most charge at up to 11 kW (48 amps) on Level 2; Porsche and some Audi and Mercedes models can take 19.2 kW (80 amps) with a compatible charger. Plug-in hybrids from these brands charge at 3.7 to 7.4 kW.
Manufacturer and universal chargers
Each brand sells or recommends a wall box, and any hardwired 48-amp unit performs the same. Porsche and Audi 19.2 kW owners need an 80-amp charger on a 100-amp circuit to use the full rate.
Installation notes
Progressive installs the brand-supplied wall box when you have one and a universal unit when you do not.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche & Volvo-branded charger?
No. The manufacturer unit works well and is a good choice if you already have it; a universal hardwired charger performs the same and often costs less.
Will my panel handle it?
Usually a 200-amp panel will; many 100-amp panels will not without load management or an upgrade. The load calculation in our assessment answers it, and we quote both options.

I called Progressive because of storm/tree damage, which took out both my power and caused my water main to burst. Progressive could do both. From my initial call to the arrival of the electrician and plumber, I couldn’t have been more pleased. … I would use them again and highly recommend them for your ‘mechanical’ needs.

We really appreciate the extra time, phone calls to the supplier, and careful reading of the instructions to do the job right. Gilbert expressed his philosophy as ‘doing the job the way he would want it done in his own home.’ Once again, we are most pleased with the professional and courteous service your company provides.
