## Charging port and connector

Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X and Cybertruck all use the NACS port, the connector most other automakers have now adopted.

## How fast it charges at home

Most Teslas accept up to 48 amps on Level 2, which is about 11.5 kW and roughly 30 to 44 miles of range per hour. Some trims are limited to 32 amps.

## Manufacturer and universal chargers

Tesla's Wall Connector is a hardwired 48-amp unit; the Universal Wall Connector adds a J1772 connector for a second, non-Tesla car. The Mobile Connector plugs into a NEMA 14-50 outlet at up to 32 amps.

## Installation notes

A 60-amp circuit gets the full 48 amps out of a Wall Connector. If your panel cannot spare it, the Wall Connector can be set to a lower current or share power with a second Tesla unit.

## Frequently asked questions

Do I need the Tesla-branded charger?No. The manufacturer unit works well and is a good choice if you already have it; a universal hardwired charger performs the same and often costs less.



Will my panel handle it?Usually a 200-amp panel will; many 100-amp panels will not without load management or an upgrade. The load calculation in our assessment answers it, and we quote both options.
