## Why high-efficiency pays in commercial buildings

A standard atmospheric gas water heater wastes a large share of its fuel as hot exhaust. Condensing units pull that heat back out of the flue gases before they leave the building, which is why they can reach thermal efficiencies in the high nineties. In a hotel, a laundry, a restaurant or an apartment building that heats water around the clock, the difference shows up on every gas bill for the life of the equipment.

High-efficiency units also vent through PVC or polypropylene rather than metal flue, which often makes a replacement simpler and opens up installation locations that a conventional heater could not use.

How much more efficient is a condensing water heater?Standard commercial gas heaters run in the low-to-mid eighties percent thermal efficiency; condensing units run in the mid-to-high nineties. Actual savings depend on how many hours a day your building heats water.



Can I replace my existing tank with a high-efficiency unit?Usually, yes. The main changes are the vent, the condensate drain and sometimes the gas line. We survey the mechanical room and quote the complete job.



Do high-efficiency units need more maintenance?They need the condensate trap and neutralizer checked and the heat exchanger inspected on a schedule. Our maintenance agreements cover it.
