## What infrared imaging finds

Insurers and electrical maintenance standards increasingly expect a periodic infrared survey of energized equipment. Beyond compliance, it is the cheapest way to prevent the downtime that a failed main breaker or burned bus causes. Does the survey require a shutdown?No. Infrared imaging is done with equipment energized and under normal load, which is the only way the hot spots show.
